Team One met in the Oncourse chat room on Sunday, October 24, 2010 to discuss the Wiki, the topics, what pages we wanted to create, and to whom each subject would be assigned or selected. After a very encouraging conversation with everyone, a Wiki themed on science fiction for young adults was decided upon. It was decided that while there are many science fiction sites and organizations, not many focus on the younger readers. This Wiki strives to highlight science fiction authors, works, videos, graphics, book club discussions, and projects geared toward the reading level of students in grades 6-8, generally grouped into classifications such as Young Adult, Middle Readers, Teens, Middle School, or Junior High, and whose ages would be between 12 and 15.
Melissa--At first I was a little nervous about this assignment. I had thought of the idea to do a Wiki page on a tween/teen centered book club which focused on Science Fiction books as I am new to the genre and thought that it would be a fun topic to explore but was a little worried that no one would like my idea. Thankfully, everyone did. We used the Oncourse chat room option because it was the most convenient method for all five group members. We nominated a "group leader" (me) to help get the discussion started and to keep it on track. I feel as though every member of the group did an excellent job contributing to the discussion. After looking through the pages on the Wiki, I also feel that each member of our group has done an excellent job representing our topic.
